Abigail and Dolley is a record of the ponderings and interests of a Modern Woman. From faith, to hobbies, to political and social commentary; I share with you whatever is brewing around in my brain at the time. Thanks for reading!
Whenever I stumble upon a Christian writer, I try to determine early on what they believe, this is prudent. Here at Abigail and Dolley we believe in the inerrancy of the Scripture (Protestant), that the word of God is inspired and infallible, that all Scripture is useful in the teaching and reproofing of the people. We don't pick and choose which Scriptures we like, we take the Word as it was given to us. We are pretribulation Rapture dispensationalist and believe in a literal Second Coming and Millennial Reign. We believe in crucifixion of the flesh and reject the tenants of the Word of Faith heresy. We believe the age of Grace is rapidly coming to an end at that the Church will be called home to meet the Lord soon, from there a 7 year Tribulation will descend upon the World. Maranantha.
Perhaps at some point in this journey, you may have come to a point where you began to believe but then you changed your mind. You are confused, conflicted, and swaying in the breeze.
Jesus' half brother James writes about this in 50 AD "But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. That person should not expect to receive anything from the Lord. Such a person is double-minded and unstable in all they do." James 1:6-8
Double Minded Man
In this 30 Day Jesus Challenge, we are walking a path, a journey, a discovery - at each juncture along the way you are asked to make a choice. Today, you need to commit again to the challenge but moving forward, you need to stop being double minded about it. For the next 18 Days, get on board fully or quit.
Pray - Jesus, I don't want to be double minded about this. I want to fully commit to the remaining challenge.
In a study published in 2014, there were only 11 countries of 162 that were considered peaceful. Matthew 24:6 tells us that in the end, there will be wars and rumors of wars. It is not just your perception that the world is become increasingly more violent and unstable, it is a documented fact. Watch this short video below, pay particular attention to minute 1:02, we'll pick up on that after the video.
Deaths in violent conflict have risen 210% in the last 5 years. Terrorism deaths have increased dramatically, especially in the Middle East and Africa. Armed conflicts, violent demonstrations, internal factional fighting, regional conflicts have escalated in the world's hot spots. These are the headlines of the day, or at least they used to be... I fear we have become so used to violence and war we no longer take notice unless it touches home.
Peace and Security among Wars and Rumors of Wars
Let us again go deeper in this series and I'd ask you to take this journey with me. I'd like to look at the most peaceful countries, those they talked about in minute 1:00 of the video...
1 Thessalonians 5:3 applies to them... It is largely Europe who has been on the military welfare of the US for the last 60 years, who are the largest critics of Israel. They stand and watch while Iran, Turkey and Russia make their evil scheme against Israel (Ezekiel 38:13). "We are facing many challenges in our communities and we are aiming to achieve peace and security and stability with the help of the United States," said John Kerry of the Iran Nuclear Deal (source). Thus, while the nations rage - even the seemingly peaceful are powder kegs about to come under severe judgement. These wars and rumors of wars have been with us for the last 60 years, but they are escalating... and have begun giving birth to the stronger birth pangs of Nation against Nation but we will perhaps cover that on another day.
