Abigail and Dolley is a record of the ponderings and interests of a Modern Woman. From faith, to hobbies, to political and social commentary; I share with you whatever is brewing around in my brain at the time. Thanks for reading!
Whenever I stumble upon a Christian writer, I try to determine early on what they believe, this is prudent. Here at Abigail and Dolley we believe in the inerrancy of the Scripture (Protestant), that the word of God is inspired and infallible, that all Scripture is useful in the teaching and reproofing of the people. We don't pick and choose which Scriptures we like, we take the Word as it was given to us. We are pretribulation Rapture dispensationalist and believe in a literal Second Coming and Millennial Reign. We believe in crucifixion of the flesh and reject the tenants of the Word of Faith heresy. We believe the age of Grace is rapidly coming to an end at that the Church will be called home to meet the Lord soon, from there a 7 year Tribulation will descend upon the World. Maranantha.
Or restated, if you are a Democrat are you really a Christian? Jesus was political, don't let anyone tell you he wasn't. Let's define a Christian as someone who believes the Bible and when God's word contradicts man's desires, the Christian comes down on the side of God.
1. Leftists believe in abortion is a "right". God's word says it is murder and that all life is of value (source)
2. Leftists believe that Jerusalem belongs to the Palestinians. God's word says that Jerusalem belongs to the Jews. (source)
3. Leftists believe a marriage is between people that love each other. God's word defines a family as a man and a woman. (Genesis 5:2)
4. Leftists believe that rights come from the state. God's word clearly defines that rights come from Him. (source)
5. Leftists are largely Humanists who believe that man is the center of the world. God's word says that He is the center of the world.
This blog could go on and on, the positions held by the left are in direct contradiction with God's word on so many levels. Gone are the days when a Democrat could easily be a Christian, now the tw are mutually exclusive.
Are global forces in play to derail the US Presidential Conventions and set Obama up for a third term? With talk of a brokered GOP convention and pending indictments for Hillary, this is a very real possibility. Think of it, the establishment GOP orchestrate a coup and deny Trump or Cruz the nomination instead rolling out Mitt, or Jeb, or McCain... the GOP splits and splinters across the country. Simultaneously, the FBI indicts Hillary and leaves the Democrats at a split convention... Throw in an Iran or a N Korea Nuclear attack and you've got all the makings for Obama to circumvent the constitution (again) and stay in power.
Conversely, we could all be Raptured - most of the GOP would be gone, Hillary is still indicted and Obama takes the chaotic world and stays in power.
He's already indicated that he wants to run the UN after the Presidency...
King Obama
We know that we do not wrestle against flesh and blood but against spiritual wickedness in high places. We also know what is foretold and what is to come. Maranantha, Friends.
Abigail and Dolley readers it occurred to me today that the inherent decency of the Right has been on full display this election season as personified in Democratic Senate Candidate from SC, Alvin Greene. If you have missed Alvin Greene on the national stage you can attribute that largely in part to the hands off approach people on the right have taken toward this candidate. Watching or listening to Alvin Greene brings to mind the admonition of my Mother, "Do not stare or make fun of retarded people." For those of you who haven't had the pleasure, here is an Alvin Greene video.
Let's just pretend for a moment that this guy was a Conservative. Can you imagine Stewart, Olberman, Matthews, Maddow, Rhodes, Schultz, and all the other viscous liberal attack hyenas would do to him? Can you imagine if Alvin Green was a CGLB (Conservative, Good Looking, Brunette)?
The man won the SC primary largely because people thought he was the blues and gospel singer, Al Green. That is just pathetic. Ironically, I think Alvin Greene was the Lord's way of blessing Jim DeMint and honoring this great man for his service.
I am in the Charlotte Metropolitan area and thus, Alvin Greene is local politics in my media market. To a person, every conservative commentator and interviewer has refrained from destroying this guy. Mark Levin, who can be quite the ranter, was as polite as possible to him. The interviewers are embarrassed for him and Keith Larson of WBT has even tried to help him during exchanges. It is actually quite painful.
The Left would show no mercy if this guy was a Conservative.
I recently had a very interesting opportunity to learn about Chinese Manufacturing from a gentlemen I met from Qingdao (pronounced Ching-Dow). We were picking on him for all of the Chinese Holidays and he explained why this was so. 80% of all workers in China are what we would refer to as long term commuters. Meaning that they leave their families at home in the countryside and come to the city for work. Only during the two week or one month holidays do they get to go home to see their families.
Guangzhou Train Station
Now from an American mindset, we would get in the car and drive home. Not so in China, they have to try and get a bus or train ticket. Eager workers can wait up to a week to try and buy a ticket, many will not be successful. Traffic jams in and out of the cities can last a week. Many workers once they finally make it home, will not return to the factories. Instead they take the money they have saved and open grocery stores and the like in their own villages. Thus, the highly skilled workers needed for complex manufacturing are always turning over.
Beijing Traffic Jam
This is where the American Manufacturing, workforce, and culture SHOULD be able to kick the Chinese collective butts. We have an educated, stable, and motivated workforce who can go home every night to their families. We also are the primary consumers of many of the products the world makes so shipping costs remain constant and are not subject to the massive fluctuations we have seen in International Freight.
So why are we loosing this battle? I contend we have two problems - Government and Unions. Both of which are represented as the "answer" to the current economic catastrophe we are in by the party in power. The Democrats represent bigger and more powerful entities that are in my opinion the most significant impediment to recovery and world competitiveness.
Government suppresses American Manufacturing in a number of ways but primarily with punitive taxes and regulations. Once again, the Democrats class warfare on the "evil rich" and their penchant for "safety" regulations render it virtually impossible to put out a competitive product.
Unions strangle the ability for businesses to adapt, change, and maximize a skilled work force by ridiculous rules and wages that far outpace the market. Pensions, lavish healthcare plans, and inflexibility also make it much more difficult to compete.
As I listened to the Chinese gentleman describing the real situation in the Chinese firms, I couldn't help but think that the Democrats actually admire China and if they had their way, we would be just like them. The American spirit will never be subjected like this though, they have forgotten who they are in their quest for control and power, but the American people have not forgotten.
We will begin to throw off the bonds of regulation, government, and communist unions. We will begin to rise again and we will not loose our place in the world, no matter what the Democrats would like. We The People will never submit.
Abigail and Dolley readers the Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi has said some bizarre things over the years: her comments about the Tea Party, her ramblings over passing the Healthcare Bill to see what is in it, but the latest gaffe shows her mindset very clearly. My news junkie readers will have seen it over and over again, but some of you may not have. See the video embedded below:
The mindset of this woman is amazing! Think about it - in her world people don't independently come up with ideas without money supporting them. Let that sink in for a moment. This means that what SHE believes to be best for the public has to be sold to them, backed by money, and they need to be convinced it is the best thing. Nancy Pelosi believes that YOU are incapable of independently coming to a conclusion that is opposed to what she believes and that you have to be funded by some special interest.
This explains her comments about the Tea Party, her insistence that it is a fake movement being bank rolled by some one else. This explains why she was so disdainful of opponents of the Healthcare Takeover as shills for the Insurance companies. If this finally clarifies her mindset, then what does it say about her? Folks are you really comfortable with this woman being 3rd in line for the Presidency?
Update: Apparently, I am not the only one who thinks she's a lunatic!
Abigail and Dolley readers can you ever recall a time when the President of the United States taunted half of his countrymen? Can you ever remember being held in disdain by the elected leaders of the country? Can you ever remember being belittled? Can you ever remember a more disgusting display of gloating over a victory? Sadly, this is what we have received from our Hope and Change President. Most of America was mourning on Monday and had to endure the taunting of the victorious. Instead of waiting for the full passage of the debacle President Obama and his cohorts held a signing.
Instead of reaching out to calm Americans so against this bill, they linked arms and strolled through the crowd with a giant gavel that represented the hammer in which they will beat you with.
The manner in which they have lied, cheated, and disregarded the will of the American people is almost as abhorrent as the bill itself.
Abigail and Dolley readers if the Dems tactics for shaping the debate and name calling wasn't so repulsive and vile, I would say the Conservatives should adopt it. It IS effective. Hence the whole Tea Party People are scary. So instead of standing up and being the rat bastards that they are, they cloak themselves in perpetual victimhood. We are mad, we are scared, we are sick of being ignored, but we are going to vote your butts out of office and take back our country and return it to the Republic.
We know who you are, you are the sneaky smarmy bastards of our childhood, who envied the achievers, oppressed and made fun of the little kids and the weak while playing the perfect child in front of the teacher. My sense of justice recoils. My sense of righteousness is assaulted. If we were on the playground I would punch them in the nose. Oh, wait, is this a threat of violence. Go ahead, tell the teacher. I'll take my lumps.
Hmm, as Abigail and Dolley readers know we are constantly refining our positions, investigating our beliefs, and testing our tenants to insure that they conform to logical and linear arguments. I stumbled upon a debating Democrat this morning who when asked to define what he believed in was articulate, reasoned, logical, and firmly held beliefs based on the wisdom of our Founding Fathers. So how then could he possibly consider himself a Democrat? What I discovered was that he considered himself a liberal and thus historically identified with the Democratic Party and had not yet realized that is not who they are anymore. Conversely, he attacked the conservative writer by bringing up the failures of the Bush Administration obviously assuming that anyone of the conservative mind set must be a defender of GW Bush and a fellow NeoConservative.
It is the Progressives that are running the Dems and the Neo-Cons that are running the GOP - that is what is dividing us politically because the American people are not Progressives or Neo-Cons. Thus, those of us with a conservative mind set view the Progressive agenda with horror and the Dems do the same with the Neo-Cons. The challenge in our discourse is that WE THE PEOPLE are not represented by either of the major Political parties, but are tearing each other apart for things we have perceived the "other" side to believe.
I hate a liar. I hate a smarmy politician who twists words, misrepresents truth, and tries to scare people. I really ticks me off when they get away with it. So, here we go Abigail and Dolley readers - another addition of "Calling Them Out". Our prevaricators of the day, Mr. John Kerry and Mr. Barney Frank. On the eve of one of the most important elections in memory, these two were out in full force spreading their misinformation.
Watch the below video and note the strategies conceived and birthed by Saul Alinsky; Rules for Radicals (lots of articles on this site about this subject, check out the label tags to your left) these are flawlessly employed by the left. Isolate your opponent, marginalize them, ridicule them, demonize them.... If you are pressed for time, watch 0:10 - :21 (Barney Frank) and 1:00 - 1:20 (John Kerry)
Barney Frank - "what does driving a truck have to do with what is going on in Washington? (Scott Brown has a pick up truck and he and his truck are featured in a campaign commercial about how he has driven himself around the state getting to know the people),
Strategies used: Ridicule (red neck truck driver) Marginalize (what does he know?)
"Martha Coakley made a mistake by allowing it to become a personality contest rather than contest on the issues. The Democratic issues are more popular around here and that is why Mr. Brown isn't talking about them."
Strategies used: Demonize - Distancing himself from Coakley if she looses (I never said they don't shoot their wounded...) Isolate - Mr. Brown is not talking about popular ideas. Marginalize - Mr. Brown is just a personality.
Now, on to John Kerry - It is one thing for politicians to lie about each other, it is something completely reprehensible and ill advised for them to do this about the American People. He doesn't come out and say it, but read between the lines. Kerry infers that Scott Browns campaign is doing the threatening, when the only violence in the campaign has been from Coakley's side shoving reporters around. Kerry infers that it is outside forces coming into their state, that the people of Massachusetts would never be angry about Washington. Note, how he pauses on the word Burning..... I was expecting him to say cross, and that is the point! Do you think that if there were really death threats and people physically going after Coakley and they had proof they wouldn't use every bit of political sympathy they could squeeze out?
Remember the Tea Party mob commercials? The complete misrepresentation of American's sick of Big Government? The Democrats have tried their best to make us into Terrorists and to scare people. They are so isolated in their Washington back rooms that they are missing it completely, they are marganizing their electorate. More people agree with the Tea Party ideals than this Debacle we are seeing in Washington. Your neighbor is the mob, your co-worker that makes you laugh everyday, the guy in the church pew beside you - these aren't crazy people, these are your neighbors and you know it! This ill advised strategy will back fire big time, but in the interim, it is an effective tool, because it is ridicule.
Don't be fooled, don't be deceived, don't let them get away with it any more. Stand firm, speak out, and pray. May God Bless America!
Rabbit trailing around the blog-sphere the other day, I stumbled upon this article on Totus and this picture of Detroit. The scene of decay, destruction, and abandonment struck a chord in me and I have not been able to get it out of my mind. This, of course in Abigail and Dolley fashion, has led me on an exhaustive search to dig into this subject more deeply, to get a full understanding of it, and to form my own conclusions. The more I find out, the more I realize I could write a hundred entries on this subject.
Liberals are completely responsible for Detroit. It is their policies, management, and ideas that have made Detroit what it is today. There can be no denying who or what has caused this destruction, thus, America, I give you Detroit a shining example of Progressive Liberal and Union policies.
An exhaustive case study of Detroit as it pertains to the results of Liberal policies, Union Control, and Race Relations would be a fascinating undertaking. The study itself is inherently dangerous because you do not grab a Detroit Tiger by its tail and expect to escape unscathed. The inevitable accusations of racism will follow anyone who looks into this subject. First and foremost, anytime you examine liberal outcomes you are branded a racist, whether you are or are not is immaterial. Secondly, the demographic of the cities population today is primarily black, thus speaking frankly about the black community makes you a racist. Third, a true historical analysis would have to include the three race riots that occurred in 1863, 1943, and 1967. Any true commentary would have to dispassionately examine the events, causes, and effects of these riots and their ultimate role in where the city is today.
Finally, to examine the facts of the current state of Detroit one must deal honestly with the end effects of wealth redistribution, white flight, failed policies of liberalism, union destruction, an enslaved electorate, and the ultimate destruction of a city once called the Paris of the West, because of it's beautiful architecture.
Detroit Ghetto Street
An Internet search on the problems and the decline of Detroit are documented and written about extensively, but one I am just now "discovering" this issue. Perhaps, Abigail and Dolley readers, you are also unfamiliar with this subject. Thus, I will endeavor to put together some coherent thoughts and links that may serve to enlighten you. Moreover, I will direct you to additional sources of information, rather than simply regurgitating the thoughts of others. There are dozens of angles to take on Detroit and its problems, this article is not intended to discuss the history of the automobile industry, it is designed to highlight what happens to a city that is run by Liberals and Progressives.
I have never been to Detroit. I am not Black. I do not pretend to be a subject matter expert, but find myself oddly fascinated by the macabre subject. It is like looking upon a dead body and not being able to turn away. Like rubber necking a gruesome accident, that in spite of yourself, you gaze upon with horror and fascination.
I have familial roots in the Rust Belt. All of my Great Grandparents and Grandparents made their living in the Rubber Factories of Akron Ohio. My Dad and Mom left for warmer and greener pastures in the mid 1970's, and I for all intents and purposes am a Southern Lady. I have inklings of understanding of the destruction of my ancestral home city, but the demise of Akron is mild compared to the complete collapse of Detroit.
Ghetto Field
Here are some statistics for you:
Detroit is a city founded in 1701 and at one point had a population 1.8 million. Today, there are less than half of number.
Geographically, 55% of the cities area is abandoned.
In 1950, Detroit had the highest median income in the country; today it is 66 out of 68.
Per capita, Detroit spends over $11,000 per year to educate a student, compared with $9600 nationally, and $6600 for private schools, yet it graduates on 21% of students.
Detroit's public education system is run completely by the Teacher's Union
Detroit's population is roughly 88% "non-white".
1 in every 47 Detroit residents are homeless.
A black man dropping out of high school will faces a 73% rate of unemployment. He will have a 60% chance of going to jail before he leaves his 20's.
Only 56% of the eligible workforce in Detroit is employed (Labor Stats) of those employed, 17.2% work for the government.
To hire someone legally in Detroit, you must pay the mandated minimum wage of $10/hour - thus businesses can not afford to open and run businesses there, so the leave.
47% of households made less than $35,000/year; only 1% had incomes over $200,000.
Each of the above statistics tells a story, each has a cause and effect, each has a human face behind it. Entire neighborhoods are abandoned. There are huge sections of the city that are urban prairies. Some enterprising residents are beginning to farm the land. Wild Animals are returning. There are packs of wild dogs, bears, coyotes, raccoons, and even a beaver.
In the ultimate end of liberal policies, Detroit has become a city of "have nots" because they sought to punish the "haves". As a result, the "haves" left and the "have nots" have even less. Detroit was touted as the city of hope and a model city of Lyndon Johnson's Great Society, the liberal Democrats were no doubt shocked in 1967 when those they were seeking so diligently to help instead began to riot and burn the city. Yet, the same failed policies and political solutions that created the problem are still put forth today as the solution.
Detroit Homes Collapsing
Detroit is a case study on what America can expect if the ultra liberal policies of the Obama Administration, the Reid/Pelosi Congress, and the Unions have their way. Look at Detroit - a complete destruction of the infra-structure that created the wealth to begin with, an enslaved and dependent population, and an all powerful government controlling every aspect of human life. You must ask yourself, who gains from this arrangement?
The blog gives a good history of the city, explores Devil's Night activities, portrays tons of video and links about the subject and is one of the best sources of info I found on the Detroit ghettos.
"We finally met liberals, up until now, we have just had to watch them give speeches, but nobody has actually seen them govern since Lyndon Johnson... Now we are watching a certified liberal govern and the American people are recoiling in absolute shock and horror." Dick Morris
This quote cracked me up. It is taken from an interview that Dick Morris gave to Sean Hannity last week regarding the shift in the polls and the movement by the American people back toward conservative values.
I am going to give the young people a pass on this one. I was an idealistic young voter once too. Winston Churchill once said, "Show me a young man who is not a liberal and I will show you a man who has no heart. Show me an old man who is a liberal and I will show you a man with no brain." So, if you are 25 and under, you can chalk this up to a learning experience, albeit an expensive one for the country. This post is aimed at all you folks over 25 who voted for the Democrats in 2008.
If you voted for these liberals and did not know what you were going to get or who they really were, then you were a fool. A review of history will reveal the utter and absolute failure of their belief system and governance. We are seeing it now in all its liberal glory.
I am old enough to remember the Carter years and the "general malaise". It was a sad time to be a kid in America believing that we were once the greatest country in the world, but we weren't anymore. Gas lines, inflation, strikes, the death of the Rust Belt, factories closing in record numbers, hostages in Iran, and a sense of defeat about us. I remember... as a child I determined that the Democrats were not good for the country. That belief was later dramatically confirmed by the governance of the greatest president of the 20th Century, Ronald Reagan. So, as a kid, I chose my party and beliefs.
Ironically, my son is the same age as I was when Carter was elected. I see this whole mess through his eyes and it is history repeating itself. The difference this time? Debt, deficits, corruption, and special interests. We are so far removed from the Constitution and our founding principals that I fear nothing short of rebellion will bring us back. We are a country stripped of its moral and spiritual history by a the liberal education system, news media, and Hollywood and as such we have lost our way.
I said after the election that I was actually glad that Obama won, for I knew the lean to the left would correct itself once people saw what the liberals were actually like and I hoped it would wake the GOP up that nobody likes a RINO. I believe it has done both of those things, but the cost is a terrible one to pay.
I can't stand a liar, so today, I am calling one out. I know you Abigail and Dolley readers will find this amazing, but for much of the last decade I completely tuned out of news and politics, I just couldn't take the lies. My philosophy was that I knew what I stood for, I knew the party that lined up with my beliefs, and being involved did nothing other than raise my blood pressure. That was of course a different time and a different world. I find that I can no longer sit on the side lines and do nothing, so here we are. Anyway, I digress, I really do hate a liar.
Check out the first few seconds of this Fox News video:
It it Harry Reid, the Democratic Senate Majority Leader makes a statement that is absolutely untrue. The consequences to our Country are dire if this lie is allowed to become law.
Lies he tells:
Our Program saves lives - LIE - their program will cost lives by fundamentally changing the greatest health care system in the world. Ask the Brits and the Canadians, hell for that matter ask those living under Romney care in Massachusetts.
Our Program saves Money - At a 2 TRILLION dollar cost for the first 10 years (of which benefits are only paid for 5 but fees and taxes are collected for the full 10) this is a LIE. The government has not historically been very good contemplating the long term cost of things, check out original estimates of Medicare - we are now 2000% higher than estimated, can we afford another entitlement?
Our Program saves Medicare - This is another joke - Medicare is broke, this healthcare debacle cuts Medicare payments and moves everyone to the government DMV style healthcare.
The Republicans don't have a plan - this is so blatantly untrue that any reasonably informed American knows this is a LIE. I have seen the Coburn-Burr legislation. Republicans have offered over 800 amendments that have all been rejected.
The days when all Americans got their news from the direction of the NY Times of over, Harry. We know you are lying to us, SHAME on YOU, HARRY REID.
Fox News today is reporting that some GOP leaders are proposing a litmus test to determine if a candidate should receive funds for the upcoming elections. There are 10 questions and a candidate running as a Republican has to agree with 8 of the 10. These are 10 major tenants of the party and I see no problem asking folks who are running under the party banner to state that they agree with their party on these issues. Of course, the RINOs (Republicans in Name Only) are squawking because they should not be called Republicans and have never been in accordance with the conservative core of the GOP. The Democratic strategist interviewed for the story was purportedly chomping at the bit with excitement stating that it would turn away potential independent and liberal voters.
As is always the case in politics, you have to move beyond the rhetoric and actually look at historic outcomes. One must also recognize that when your opponent wants you to do something, you would be well pressed to do the opposite. In this case, what happens when the GOP runs candidates that adhere to conservative principals and don't try to act like "Democrat Light"? The GOP wins.
Had such a litmus test been in place, would we have had a Dede Scozzafava in New York? Would we have a Lindsay Graham, Olympia Snow, or an Arlen Specter (who of course has now switched parties)? For that matter, would we have a John McCain?
Any time in the last 30 years, when the GOP ran under the full banner of conservative principals of limited government and lower taxes, they win. The problem with the Republican Party is that they have not delivered. They have become a party of big government, just like the Democrats. People do not rally under an ambiguous banner. They do not become passionate supporters of moderates. They do not see much difference between the parties as they existed in the 2008 elections other than the fact that John McCain ran the worst campaign since Walter Mondale.
Enter the Tea Parties. Fired up every day Americans who work hard and play by the rules and say "Enough is Enough!" Tea Parties will force the GOP back to its roots or it will run its own candidates and split the electorate. This ultimately hands elections to the Democrats, which while painful, is the price the GOP must pay for failing to govern.
I say to the leadership of the GOP, do not be afraid of a litmus test - be afraid of not having one. The price of continuing along the moderate middle of the road, stand for less government than the Democrats is the road to failure for your party and ultimately for our country. The Lord Himself finds middle of the road, lukewarm disgusting, ‘I know your works: you are neither cold nor hot. Would that you were either cold or hot! So, because you are lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of my mouth." Revelation 3:15-16.
When will it ever end or maybe the better question is, will it ever end? I am talking about the incessant manner in which the Obama Administration and the Democrats blame everything on "the failed policies of the last eight years." Because last time I looked, the Democrats have been in control of the congress since 2006 and for the better part of the last century. Furthermore, Obama has been in office 11 months. I saw Barack Obama TODAY blame the problems in Afghanistan on "the failed polices of the last eight years." Let us not forget that Obama himself announced his new Afghanistan policy in March of this year. After failing to implement the recommendations of his own Generals, he blames someone else.
Today, I saw a Democratic strategist deflect Stu Varney's point blank question on whether it was "American" to tax ANY citizen at the 50% level, which we are rapidly approaching. The strategist blamed "the failed policies of the last eight years." on their punitive tax plans. It is unbelievable! If I was a psychologist, I am sure there is some type of mental illness that never takes responsibility for its own actions and failures.
I like sports analogies - can you imagine if your favorite team had several bad seasons and the Head Coach was fired. The new coach campaigned heavily for the job and promised all sorts of miracles and a winning season just around the corner. At this point in the season they are 0-11 and at every press conference the new coach announces the failures are the responsibility of the old coach.
What about from your kid - what if their teacher last year had been lousy, would you except their bad grades this year to be the sole responsibility of last year's teacher?
I run a branch for my company - that branch was managed by my predecessor for 8 years prior to my arrival. There was a reason they chose me. Not once in the year I took over have I blamed the direction of the branch on my predecessor, because its mine. Whatever happens, its me.
I do not recall one instance, ever, where George W Bush blamed the Clinton Administration for hamstringing the intelligence community to such an extent that we suffered 9/11. Never once did I hear that from George W Bush. Say what you will about him, he at least had some class.
Glen Beck hosted a two hour show 5/1/09 (60 minutes on his show and then the additional 60 minutes posted on the Internet). His audience was comprised of about 45 average Americans who attended the Tea Parties. I am one of them; that's how I see things, too.
Several things struck me in the show of hands poll that Glen Beck took at the beginning of the segment.
Who believes in the Two Party System - no one raised their hands.
Who is a reluctant activist - 2/3 raised their hands
Who is madder at the GOP than the Democrats because you expect this from the Democrats? the majority raised their hands.
Do you know what else struck me? That there is a ton of stuff all of these people believed in and not a whole lot they didn't agree on - but in the end their is no place for them in the Two Party System.
If there was a Dolley Madison party it would look like this:
Constitutionalists - purist and strict interpretation
Environmental Stewards - not insane Greenies or pollution happy capitalist pigs, just following the guideline of Genesis to be good stewards of the Earth.
Strong Military - but insist other countries stop being on the Trillion Dollar military welfare program.
Return to State and Local Government power and an abolition of unconstitutional Federal Government Programs, Departments, and Policies.
Fair and Flat Tax
Allow states to pass their own laws on abortion, speed limits, drinking age, and other areas where the Federal Government has usurped the state's authority to govern themselves.
Secure Borders and sensible immigration policies
Minimal Government regulations on business
So there you have it America, the launch of Dolley's Party, but I guess we will have to rename it because Patrick Henry would never join a party called Dolley, unless of course, he decides to become a metrosexual.
The title of course is a play on the famous campaign slogan of Bill Clinton and James Carville, "It's the Economy Stupid". It was amazingly effective and delivered the White House to the Democrats for the first time in 12 years. It is time to move past the individual and driving force of how much money we have in our wallets. It is time to stop being consumed by one issue.
I believe though, that we as Americans are at a cross roads and that the lines delineated between us by the extremes on both sides will no longer be accepted. It is time for us to GROW UP and stop fighting about our labels.
It is time we recognize that our stated goals are much the same, though we differ in the manner and plan in which we want to achieve said goals. It is prudent to examine history and take a lesson from the success and the failures of the past, remember that "there is nothing new under the sun". Thus, the most alarming thing about what is going on in Washington is not the stated goals, but the manner in which we are pursuing them. The course of action we are taking in almost all areas has been proven ineffective, counterproductive, and dismal failures when tried in the past. Why then are we seeking to implement failed policies? I believe it is simply a matter of POWER. Stated goals and outcomes are not the real concern of the Washington bureaucrats, they want CONTROL. They want to decide what you do, how you do it, what you make, how you live, where you live, and they will not stop until they control and regulate every thing you do - see THEY know best. This taken to its logical conclusion is tyranny and the American Spirit will not abide the chains of slavery.
What do we need? We need Common Sense, we need Public Servants, we need the end of Politics and a return to the Principals of our Founding Fathers. Instead of Democrats and Republicans let us all become Constitutional Americans. These are the principals we can agree on:
Take care of the Helpless and stop funding and enabling the Clueless
Protect the Earth in a Common Sense manner
Peace through strength
Protect and close our borders - deport illegals
Educate our young people - train them in professions or send them to college
Any legislation, regulation or rule should have to pass Constitutional muster
Stop Judicial Activism
Stop wasteful spending
Remove and repeal rules and regulations that stifle business and job creation
Build safe and efficient nuclear power plants and allow access to the vast oil deposits in our country
Privatize government functions not authorized by the Constitution
Cut taxes
Balance the budget
Pay off our debt
Create a business environment that enables the American Spirit and Ingenuity to thrive - we have to start MAKING things.
Tell the rest of the world they will no longer have Military welfare - all of the countries in the world do not devote a huge percentage of their budget to defense, they rely on the USA to spend all the money and thus are on Military welfare - all nations must maintain adequate military defenses or start sending us money or forgiving debts owed them by our previous spending.
Term limit all government elected officials- this removes the permanent elite ruling class and motivates politicians to do the right thing for the country instead of the thing that gives them power.
These are American ideals and we need to stop fighting, stand together, and make the change. We must demand results from our legislators and other elected officials. We must no longer be disengaged from the public arena. We must stop with the prohibition to discuss religion and politics amongst ourselves. We must learn to engage one another with respect and intellect and common sense. We must stop tolerating lies, half truths, and spin from our partisans and elected leaders and demand honesty and candor. It is time for us all to stop being partisan and start being Americans. If we fail to do these things we will sink into the ranks of the once great Republics that could not hold on to the ideals that made them great to begin with.
I for one, choose to fight for the America I believe in. Will you?
"Elections have consequences", I heard a conservative pundit say the other day (sorry I can't remember who). As simple as the statement was, it rang true to me. They do and they have and they are. These consequences are ringing in my ears daily and will effect everyday life for the rest of this country's life, unless a Constitutional Revolution takes place and we start over again. I just wonder if the people that voted for Obama and the Democrats really had this in mind when they pulled that lever on November 4th.
I am not surprised, I am just old enough to remember the country under Carter and this feels just like that. A few days before the election, I saw a bumper sticker that summed up my feelings it read: Obama = Oh Shit.
As our faithful Abigail and Dolley readers know, this blog is not the mouthpiece of the GOP. As the political wind blows we have in fact probably been more angry with them than the Democrats, because you expect that from them.
